William F. “Bill” Cunningham is a passionate member of our community. He is active in several philanthropic boards and community organizations (see below). Professionally he is the CEO, Developer, of BERT (Building Emergency Response Teams), a certified Disabled Veterans Business Enterprise (DVBE). He is a Council-certified Emergency Operations Professional.
Founded on 9/11/2008 BERT was developed to deliver a FEMA and OSHA safety compliance-based program, which trains companies and organizations to prepare to act effectively in an emergency situation, and to comply with OSHA IIPP regulations. Multi-lingual courses are delivered live, online, or through a combination of both.
Before he was inspired to develop BERT, Bill had a satisfying 35-year career as a Nationally Certified Paralegal, working in litigation support and law enforcement management. And before that, Bill launched his life adventure in the United States Coast Guard from 1975 to 1982. He served as permanent crew aboard the USCG Barque Eagle and has enjoyed the challenges of being a professional tall ship sailor.
Bill has had a life-long passion for serving his country, community, and veterans organizations.
He is currently the President of the Orange County Chapter of the US Veterans Business Alliance. He has also recently been a volunteer for the Veterans Outpost at the Orange County Rescue Mission and is serving as a member of the Orange County Veterans Collaborative. Most recently, he joined the OC Black Chamber of Commerce
In addition to his veteran's work, Bill serves on the Board of Directors for Leadership Tomorrow OC. He also is on the Executive Board of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Newport Beach, which meets at the Sea Base Branch of Boy Scouts of America where he is an active member of the Sea Base Committee. He is also known for his work with several chambers of commerce.
Bill lives with his wife, Holly, in Orange, California, and enjoys being a dad and granddad to his grown children and grandchildren.
